Cuba, Havana: Seis Pasos
On my last night in Cuba, I returned to the Malecón in Havana to witness the incredible scene of hundreds of Habaneros lining its entire seven kilometers in almost complete darkness, for what seems to be party central on Saturday nights. Already half past ten when I arrived, the only available light there came from the headlights of cars passing occasionally along the highway just next to it. Stopping at every six steps along the Malecón, I turned my camera towards the sea to capture from the same distance of around three metres, succumbing to whatever was taking place in front of me. Frame after frame, I discovered families, couples of various inclinations, or groups of youngsters, each producing their own version of the real Saturday Night Live. The entertainment simply provided by music from the sound system of the Atlantic Ocean, sharing a bottle of rum, good conversation, people watching or making out the Cuban way. |
